Last night celebrating @vam_east s launch of its A Last night celebrating @vam_east s launch of its Africa and Diaspora Acquisition Committee — promoting the artists, the stories, the voices that deserve to be in permanent collections, and have deserved it for so long. The start of an exciting new story and an invitation for as many of you to get involved to promote, donate & support this incredible initiative.
Gus Casely-Hayford, Director of @vanmuseum and Dr Madeleine Haddon, Senior Curator of V&A East, inspired us all. Loved meeting you all @izejones, @laetitia_masson, @viv_paxinos, @mukami_kuria, Linda Essumai, can’t wait to plot lots of things together.
An enormous thanks to @a_christianindior, @fredaisingoma and @izejones for including me in this, not least to the wonderful Ariel White-Tsimikalis for hosting us so beautifully. Magical eve ✨

@photolondonfair has arrived at Olympia — and it f @photolondonfair has arrived at Olympia — and it feels like a proper new era for the fair. Gone is the maze of Somerset House; in its place, two light-filled floors of the National Hall with real space to move, discover and linger.
Steven Meisel’s monumental black-and-white prints from his legendary 1993 Anglo-Saxon Attitude shoot dominate the upper gallery, and
Upstairs in Discovery and Positions, some real highlights: Tshepiso Moropa’s exquisite archival collages rooted in Setswana folktale and dream; the multi-layered photographic world of @fu_safira and the singular @fyodorpavlovandreevich, whose work across performance, film and image deserves every bit of the platform Positions is giving it.
New this year: a dedicated film screening room, and Source — a section for significant artists who’ve slipped through the institutional net. Loved it. Hugest congratulations @__sophie.parker__ @mariasukkar @omfgnoway
Open until Sunday 17 May, Olympia. Go. #PhotoLondon #PhotoLondon2026 #photography #art #londonartscene

Such a privilege to be offered a sneak peek at Fra Such a privilege to be offered a sneak peek at Francis Picabia: Expanding Horizons @hauserwirth with our fab group the Quorum Network before the show opens its doors next week. Huge thank you to Judith Nezri @_judith_n and Sarah Bourghardt @smulieart for showing us around — what an introduction to five decades of one of art history’s great shape-shifters. Dada, abstraction, nudes, transparencies... Picabia never stood still, and neither did we.Judith spoke with such passion and deep knowledge about his life and work. Loved her story that his first gallerist threw Picabia out when he dared to veer from Impressionism to abstraction. Picabia had refused point blank to keep producing the same thing time and again. The gallerist saw red and sent all of Picabia’s works to auction as a result. Picabia remained undeterred — persevering in his eternal creative renewal. The evidence was there this morning.
Opens 21 May. Loved our sneak view of a beautiful Frank Bowling too.

Which artists never stand still? Constantly creati Which artists never stand still? Constantly creating something new, never mind previous success or commercial demands? Which artists truly embody creativity?

Francis Picabia (1879–1953) is one of them. Moving restlessly through Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Dada, Surrealism and abstraction, never settling, never repeating himself. One of the most ingenious shape-shifters in the history of art.

This coming Tuesday, I’m hosting a privileged guided visit to see Expanding Horizons at @hauserwirth London — a full week before the official opening — for our illustrious private Member’s Club Quorum Network.

Organised in collaboration with the Comité Picabia, this is a rare overview of five decades of his work: from early landscapes and Dada provocations through to the richly textured abstract paintings of his final years in Paris. Love the conviction, daredevilry and sheer sense of freedom in his work. All from 1930s,40s,50s too. Were we freer then than we are now?

Hauser & Wirth, 23 Savile Row, London

Official opening: 21 May – 1 August 2026 thanks @smulieart 🙏

Many highlights @labiennale, so many extraordinary Many highlights @labiennale, so many extraordinary artists and exhibitions you need two weeks to fit it all in properly.
Notwithstanding all the politics, and albeit second hand but not less powerful:

Kenyan artist @kalokinyamaistudio in Arsenale

the extraordinary @lornasimpson at Punta della Dogana @palazzo_grassi @hauser

@otobongnkanga whose sculptural installation covers the very façade of the Central Pavilion

@lubaina.himid in the British Pavilion, high high time for her to be there

the German Pavilion transformed by S@sungtie into the housing complex in East Berlin where the artist grew up after arriving from Vietnam as a child.

@huthhayden “Huff and a Puff”  at @fondazionesandretto

Also at Palazzo Grassi, @michael_armitage_studio The Promise of Change — a decade of work by the Kenyan-British painter, presented by the Pinault Collection

Away from the Biennale itself: Minimal Legends @lawrencevh at @vincenzodecotiisfoundation, Palazzo Giustinian Lolin — giants of Minimalism, from Judd and Flavin to Agnes Martin, Bridget Riley and Richard Serra

Finally, the Austrian Pavilion “SEAWORLD VENICE” by @floholzinger — visceral, aquatic, the body in a radically changing world. The Golden Lion winner in my eyes.

So grateful for those sharing their eyes.

The 61st Venice Biennale opens its doors this week The 61st Venice Biennale opens its doors this week, watching from a distance.

In Minor Keys — the theme conceived by the late, brilliant Koyo Kouoh — opens posthumously, carried forward by her team with the full support of her family. A show about the quiet undercurrents that shape daily life.

Beyond the central pavilions, the shows I’d be heading straight for:

@michael_armitage_studio @palazzo_grassi

@hassanhajjaj_larache: Venice, 1447 at 193 Gallery , “Venice, 1447”taking its name from the Hijri (Islamic) calendar, along a timeline that spanned the Hijra-the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina.

@hernanbas and his darkly observed new paintings on mass tourism, just when the world descends on Venice

@jennysavilleofficial at Ca’ Pesaro — her first major Venetian exhibition: monumental canvases in dialogue with the Old Masters in a palazzo on the Grand Canal.

Li Yi-Fan: Screen Melancholy at Palazzo delle Prigioni — all about AI, exploring human existence within algorithmic, technology-driven environments

Helter Skelter: @anamibia & Richard Prince at @fondazioneprada — two artists who have spent careers interrogating the image, who owns it, cultural appropriation, side by side.

Can’t wait to see @lubainapics at the British Pavilion, amazing nomination to represent the UK— and equally excited for @floholzinger at the Austrian Pavilion with Seaworld Venice, imagining Venice as a flooded, feminist, apocalyptic city.

And the Japanese Pavilion — Ei Arakawa-Nash’s performance installation with his husband and their twin babies. (“The babies always outperform the administration.”)

Runs until 22 November ✨

Special morning at @npg_london with @spiritnowlond Special morning at @npg_london with @spiritnowlondon 🙏

We were welcomed before opening hours for a private view of the Lucian Freud exhibition, hosted by the curatorial team of Director Flavia Frigeri. A truly extraordinary way to experience his work — intimate, haunting, and deeply arresting.

Great to also celebrate two 1978 photographs of Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington by photographer Stella Snead, donated to the National Portrait Gallery by @spiritnowlondon as Philanthropic Initiative. Selected by the Spirit of Giving Committee, this gift shines a light on overlooked women artists who deserve their place in our cultural memory.

Thank you to Flavia’s team for hosting us so beautifully ✨

Last night @annkakultys Gallery to hear two brilli Last night @annkakultys Gallery to hear two brilliant minds in conversation — Sabine Himmelsbach @sabinehimmelsbach22, Director of @hek_basel – House of Electronic Arts Basel, and artist @marcleeio, whose third solo exhibition at the gallery just opened.

Marc’s new net-based installation Speculative Evolution, Prototyp 2 urgently asks what happens when ecosystems fail — and technology steps in to fill the void? Imagine bees, disoriented by pesticides and losing their navigational instincts, fitted with robotic antennae to help them find their way. Art and science blurring into a possible, and chilling, dystopian future.

Sabine opened the conversation up, and helped us non-tech lay people understand what we were seeing— helped by a career spent translating complex technological ideas through art, from ZKM Karlsruhe to the Edith-Russ-Haus, and now HEK Basel, where she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel in 2025.

An evening that triggered lots of discussion on AI and where we are heading. Thank you Annka for a memorable and hilarious evening, and fab to have your lovely group with us @mingk888 ✨ #AnnkaKultysGallery #MarcLee #SabineHimmelsbach #HEKBasel #ContemporaryArt

Last night at @hope93gallery for Misan Harriman’s Last night at @hope93gallery for Misan Harriman’s The Purpose of Light — joy to discover @avabintagiallo there too.
Love @aki_abiola and Hope 93’s refusal to let commerce always dictate what he shows. Sometimes the commercials don’t make sense, he says — but screw that, he grins, sometimes it’s just about the artist. So lovely to have a break from the relentlessly transactional market ✨
Ava Binta Giallo is a German-Guinean artist living between Vienna and Cabo Verde, and her work is rooted in the earth, with sun-drenched ochre pigments, hand mixed tempura, with a new project in mind- tracing the very material her canvases are made from. From the cotton fields, through the process of being spun and woven into canvas, all the way through to the finished painting. The full, unbroken journey of making. Farm to table with art.

Looking forward to bringing my great group to Misa Looking forward to bringing my great group to Misan Harriman’s wonderful exhibition “The Purpose of Light” at @hope93gallery tonight.

Put together by someone I admire hugely, Aki Abiola, investment banker turned gallerist with the mission of championing the unseen.

The exhibition brings together almost 8 years of Misan’s photography that explore Protest movements from around the world. At a time when it is increasingly needed.

Misan and Aki stated they simply “want a space for people to unpack the ills of the past so our children can inherit a better world.”

Such a special evening last night— a fundraising d Such a special evening last night— a fundraising dinner in honour of Dame Stephanie Shirley, founder of @autisticauk, hosted by the extraordinary Lady Lipworth CBE at her remarkable home, The Gables, in St John’s Wood. Thank you Stephen for the wonderful invitation.

So many moving speeches. Baroness Lane-Fox @marthalanefox @jakehumphrey, a live performance from @derekparavicinipiano — Steve’s favourite musician, a blind autistic pianist of breathtaking genius.

Then @rachelc1ark took to the stage, on the very night her first book was published. She spoke from the heart —having spent years unable to speak in social situations, actually selectively mute, convinced she didn’t fit in this world, on the brink of losing her life. It was Autistica’s research and community that helped her understand she wasn’t broken — just different. A joy to see her flourishing like this.

Thank you Lady Lipworth for giving us your home for this cause, for the very last time too, having hosted hundreds of charity events there, raising over £20 million in the last 30 years 🌟

What a joy to share it with you gorgeous 😎@NazliHariri ❤️

Special evening last night — we celebrated the ope Special evening last night — we celebrated the opening of @rachealcrowther first institutional solo exhibition, Liquid Trust, @chisenhalegallery, so generously hosted by Bella Kesoyan at her beautiful home in Central London ✨

At the heart of the upcoming exhibition sits a defunct military health control post, formerly deployed by the UK Ministry of Defence to manage public health emergencies — and whose paperwork revealed it had been used as part of the decontamination operation following the 2018 Salisbury Novichok attack, the failed assassination attempt on Russian double agent Sergei Skripal. Four months after that attack, a bottle found by a member of the public — apparently Nina Ricci’s Premier Jour, but containing Novichok — was gifted to Dawn Sturgess, who sprayed it on herself and died eight days later.

Into this loaded space, Crowther purposefully diffuses barely perceptible chemical and organic compounds: substances associated with the scent of powdered milk; hexadecanal, a molecule emitted by all human bodies — particularly newborns — believed to trigger neurological and behavioural responses. At the centre of her interest is oxytocin, the hormone that stimulates lactation and social bonding, and its parallel history in military pharmacological research. Scent as care. As control. As weapon.

The show opens tomorrow evening at 6pm — come and join me.

Loved The Singh Twins at Kew: a bold, beautiful, a Loved The Singh Twins at Kew: a bold, beautiful, and powerful show connecting plants, empire, trade, and the politics of who gets remembered in history. Last chance to see it as it closes Sunday, 12 April 2026.

Warned off researching Indian miniatures when they were at university by their tutors, who told them it was backward and didn’t have any place in contemporary art, well, here they are, proving their tutors deliciously wrong.

At Kew’s Shirley Sherwood Gallery, THE SINGH TWINS: Botanical Tales and Seeds of Empire is a phenomenal response to that denigration, stamping Indian art, history and story telling right bang in the middle of contemporary art. The Show, based on Kew’s archives and botany collections, explores how plants (like cotton, spices, and dyes) shaped empire, trade, enslavement, and modern global systems. Still shocking every time the story is told.
Loved the linked Flora Indica display alongside it, bringing historical Indian botanical artists back into view, my favorite being Vishnuprasad, drawing in 1865.

What a luminous deep dive into Cornwall this week- What a luminous deep dive into Cornwall this week-end✨ hugest thanks to @bethgreenacre_london @abigailreynoldsartist 💕
A magical journey literally spanning time and space across millennia
 -  from your sun drenched exhibition space @newlynexchange to the darkness of your work in the Exchange in Penzance
- loved your video work evoquing 521 million years old Trilobites (the first ever creatures with the ability to see, whose eyes were made of stone- not joking!), to their descendants the Horseshoe crabs (whose copper filled blood is still cruelly extracted in our human vaccine production), to the copper mines, all the way to electronice dance music
- your juxtoposition of the same place as captured by different eras
- your glass work using simple kelp and sand, each with their unique composition depending which Cornish beach they came from
- reliving your epic journey across the trail of the Silk Road, unearthing all the libraries lost to time along the way (resulting in a monumental glass work exhibited in @artbasel HK)
- all seeped in the history of Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Ivon Hitchens, Henry Moore, and their St Ives studios, which your new community of artists now inhabits so vibrantly
Thank you for inviting us into your enchanting world✨🙏❤️

Looking forward to joining you in Cornwall tomorro Looking forward to joining you in Cornwall tomorrow @bethgreenacre_london and @abigailreynoldsartist. A hop and a skip into Abigail’s world — and her exhibition Walking A Cappella currently showing at @newlynexchange until 2nd May.

Starting at The Sloop in St Ives on Friday evening, through a full day on Saturday — Newlyn Art Gallery, a walk along the prom to Penzance, lunch at Smør, viewing the exhibition at The Exchange, and an afternoon at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens — finishing with sunset drinks in Abigail’s own Porthmeor Studios, perhaps the oldest working artists’ studios in the country, where Frances Hodgkins, Ben Nicholson, Patrick Heron, Francis Bacon and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham have all worked.

Sunday brings a private tour of the Barbara Hepworth Studio led by Abigail herself — whose practice has drawn deeply on Hepworth’s relationship to the Cornish landscape — before a wander through the St Ives Tate.

Art, landscape, friendship, and Cornwall in early spring ✨🥂
